Good writers define reality; bad ones merely restate it. A good writer turns facts into truth; a bad writer will, more often than not, accomplish opposite. ~ Edward Albee
My brother Jake is interning at a video production company here in our town. Yesterday, he went somewhere with the guy who owns the place and another guy went with them (I forgot where they went or what they were doing).
They were at a public place, taking video shots for something when a man comes up to them. This guy was obviously on drugs, his eyes were red and he was just acting like a weird-o, but he seemed genially interested in what the guys were going. He kept asking questions like, "What are you doing?" "What's this about?" "Is this a big production?" The other guy that was with my brother and his boss (I guess what you would call him) was African-American, and the high-guy then started asking, "Are you a boxer?" and rambling on about boxers he knew about. And forpiece de resistance, he started talking about another "medication" he used before pot, then switched to pot. He expressed how his psychiatrist saw a difference in him and to keep taking pot.
It's a rainy day, there is nothing to do, and you are completely board. Well, instead of picking on your younger sibling (like my brothers do to me when they're bored) here are some movies you could watch curling under a nice warm blanket with some popcorn on your lap:
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954...rated G) If you have not seen this movie, you need to. A friend of mine told me I just had to see it. I will admit, I dragged my feet about it, but I watched it with her and loved it! It is amazing. I got this movie from Netflix just a bit ago. When I sat down to watch it, I was wondering why I hadn't ordered it sooner! I was cracking up the whole time, sighing at the romantic parts, and everything else. It truly is an awesome movie.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (2003...rated PG-13) When this movie first came out, I was so scared to watch it (call me a chicken)! I never was one to like the skeletons and those sort of things, but my parents wanted me to watch it with the family when it came out on DVD. I couldn't sleep that night. But it later became a major favorite of mine! I love reading about pirates and in that time zone, so that was great!
Enchanted (2007...rated PG) The mere story of a fairytale princess getting trapped in the real world instantly had be hooked! It is such a cute movie. And, though he probably wouldn't admit it, I think my dad liked it a little and thought it sort of funny!
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002...rated PG) I've always loved a good romantic comedy. I think they exaggerated about Greek people in this one, but it is so funny! About a woman who thinks her life is going no where, her family won't leave her alone about getting married...It is just one of my favorites!
The Phantom of the Opera (2004...rated PG-13) Ever in the mood for a movie that you want to hide your face behind a pillow, but you don't necessarily like scary? Phantom is just creepy enough to make you want to do that. It isn't scary, just suspenseful. It has about everything: music, romance, suspense...You get the idea.
That isn't even near all my favorites, but those are some movies I wanted to share with you. If you liked this post, leave me a comment. Or don't...It's up to you!
Remember when I posted about my brother's band (check them out here: http://www.myspace.com/bgb91) was possibly going to be playing with Ayiesha Woods on the 19th of December? And then when I posted the next day saying that they didn't get the gig? Well, yesterday they found out that they did, in fact, get it. So they are going to be playing with the famous Christian singer, Ayiesha Woods! YEA!
OK, even if you're not a country music fan, you have GOT to listen to this new song by Carrie Underwood. I just listened to it and am STILL crying (the good kind of crying)! The lyrics to the song are below.
Little boy, 6 years old A little too used to bein' alone Another new mom and dad, another school Another house that'll never be home When people ask him how he likes this place He looks up and says with a smile upon his face
"This is my temporary home It's not where I belong Windows and rooms that I'm passin' through This is just a stop, on the way to where I'm going I'm not afraid because I know this is my Temporary Home."
Young mom on her own She needs a little help got nowhere to go She's lookin' for a job, lookin' for a way out Because a half-way house will never be a home At night she whispers to her baby girl Someday we'll find a place here in this world
"This is our temporary home It's not where we belong Windows and rooms that we're passin' through This is just a stop, on the way to where we're going I'm not afraid because I know this is our Temporary Home."
Old man, hospital bed The room is filled with people he loves And he whispers don't cry for me I'll see you all someday He looks up and says "I can see God's face"
"This is my temporary Home It's not where I belong Windows and rooms that I'm passin' through This was just a stop,on the way To where I'm going I'm not afraid because I know this was My temporary home."
I just got done with my World History class for today. I was learning about the Middle Ages. For the assignment, I had to answer a simple question:
Do you thing the Middle Ages should be called the Dark Ages?
It really had me contemplating. I had to simply answer yes or no, then my reason for choosing that answer. But I was stuck. Yes, I believe the Middle Ages should be called the Dark Ages; it was a time of wars, plagues, sickness, dividing of the Church, etc. But no, because there was a time of the Church, they had a great ruler named Charlemagne who did some great things, he didn't let the power go to his head.
I was stuck like a rock in a hard place (is that how the expression goes?). I eventually decided yes, the Middle Ages should be called the Dark Ages because, though there was good things in that time, there were more bad.
But I want to know other peoples thoughts. So go ahead and share your thoughts with me!
I found out not even a minute ago that by brothers band will not be playing with Ayiesha Woods. It's sad but I'm sure there will be another opportunity for them...Hopefully soon!
Have you ever heard of the Christian singer Ayiesha Woods? I just found out about her a little while ago. By brothers told me about her because they might have the chance to open up for her at a concert on December 19!
A woman who is really trying to help them out told them she was going to try and get the gig for them (which could REALLY help them out!) but there were other bands that other people brought up so they are going to draw names.
The family and the band are praying that they're picked. There is nothing more powerful than prayer, so please pray with us that the boys will get picked and, if not, then there will be another opportunity for them.
Here is the band MySpace (they did the background themselves!): http://www.myspace.com/bgb91
Here is an awesome song by Ayiesha Woods that I found on YouTube.
Focus on the dot in the middle, then move your head back and forth.
Just thought that these were fun and it shows you how deceiving the eyes can be. You see something that is pleasing to the eye, but it can turn out to be something totally different.
Let your eyes look straight ahead and your eyelids look right before you. Proverbs 4:25
This is the newest video that my older brother, Jake, played in/wrote/directed. He's the guy in the blue shirt. His friend, Jacob, is the other guy. God gave Jake a real talent for this kind of stuff and I'm proud of him!
It was filmed at our church. The tall buildings in the background are not real, he put those in. But don't they look real?!?!
Remember that song by The Backstreet Boys (or was it N'Sync? I get those two "bands" confused!) "I Want it That Way"? Well, I never cared much for that song, so when a friend of mine showed me this, I was very grateful. I hope you're not tired of Tim Hawkins. I hope to have a real post up soon, but I've had nothing to write about...
I just got off of work and wanted to check my blog. I'm getting tired of seeing the same video when I check it (below). Here is just a REALLY cute song from a funny comedian named Tim Hawkins doing a spoof on the Free Credit Report commercials.
Here's some more videos he did on his site: http://www.timhawkins.net/video.php
Hi all! It feels like forever since I blogged last so I think I'm going to just give a little update.
First off, a week ago today, I got my braces off!! After one year and eleven months, I was ready! The orthodontist said it was probably going to take two or two and a half years. I guess doing what you're suppose to can really pay off...Well, almost everything at least! LOL! Here is just a quick picture I took after I got them off. I need some teeth whitener...
Here instruction and be wise, and do not disdain it. Proverbs 8:33
In addition to my new smile, I also got a job. I am now an employee at Little Caesars Pizza. I have worked there three times so far, my feet have been killing me, and I've had to deal with some weird-o's, but it's been pretty good. The main thing I have been doing is dealing with cash, taking the pizzas out, and making the Crazy Bread. Last night, thought, I held the sign out by the road (it was kind of awkward at first), and actually made the pizzas. I can now make pizzas, take them out of the oven, and box them in my sleep.
Man goes out to do his work and to his labor until the evening. Psalm 104:23
My brothers have also gotten my parents and I into a show called LOST which it Watch Instantly on Netflix. If you've never heard about it, it's a show about a group of people that are in a plane crash from Sydney, Australia, to L. A. and get stranded on an island that no one even knows about...or does someone? All these people from different backgrounds, lifestyles, and pasts have to work together to survive whatever is on the island, and there is something big out there...It's a really interesting show.
I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Psalm 23:13
And last but not least, I am going to Rock the Universe tomorrow. I have gone a few times in the past, but those times, they didn't have this awesome new ride there! I found a video of it on YouTube. Check it out! I cannot wait! I showed the video to my brother, Jake, and he said that some parts in the video were quickly cut out because that is where the breaks were. But it still looks like so much fun!
He has put a new song in my mouth - Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, and will trust in the Lord. Psalm 40:3
That is really all that has happened since I last blogged. So, I guess I will sign off and do some school. Bye!
My youth group is taking a trip to Orlando this year to go to Rock the Universe (our town is only two hours away). I was wanting to go and decided to look up the bands that are going to be there. I found one that I really liked! Here's a music video from them (Remedy Drive) called "Daylight."
